Q3 budget call with Dana

Summary

  • Launch moves from Oct 29 to Nov 12 to clear vendor review.
  • Q3 spend is 6% under plan; surplus goes to paid pilots.
  • Marcus flagged the onboarding copy as the main risk.

Action items

  • Dana — send final vendor list by Friday
  • Josh — update launch date in the deck
  • Marcus — rewrite onboarding copy draft

So where did we land on the budget for Q3?

Dana00:31

I think we push launch to the twelfth. Vendor review won’t clear before then.

Marcus00:48

Agreed. Honestly the onboarding copy worries me more.

How it works

No new recorder.
No new habit.

Voice Memos is already the best recorder on your iPhone. VoiceMemoBuddy just does everything after you hit stop.

  1. 01
    02:14.6

    Record like always

iPhone, Apple Watch, the Action Button — wherever you hit record in Voice Memos.

  2. 02

    iCloud brings it over

Apple’s own sync drops it on your Mac. We notice the moment it lands — even after your Mac wakes from sleep.

  3. 03

It’s done. In your menu bar.

Transcribed, speakers named, summarized, searchable and exported. You get a notification when it’s ready.

Speaker labels & voiceprints

Who said what.
And it remembers who.

Apple’s transcript is one long paragraph. VoiceMemoBuddy separates every voice, keeps sentences with the person who said them, and learns the people you talk to.

  • Name someone once. Next time Dana’s on a call, she’s labeled Dana.
  • Knows your voice from a 20-second sample during setup.
  • Not sure? It says “Dana?” and lets you confirm with a click.
  • Voiceprints stay encrypted on your Mac and are deletable per person.

Everything after “stop”

A memo becomes something
you can actually use.

Summaries that know who owes what

A title, the key points, decisions and action items with owners — written on-device by Apple Intelligence. Templates for meetings, lectures, interviews and brain-dumps are picked for you.

Every sentence is timestamped. Verify a quote in one click instead of scrubbing.

Straight into your vault

Markdown with clean YAML frontmatter, written to Obsidian or any folder automatically. Re-processing updates the same file.

Ask Claude about months of memos

A built-in local MCP server. One click adds it to Claude Desktop or Claude Code.

Questions

Do I have to change how I record?

No. Keep using Apple Voice Memos on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. As long as Voice Memos syncs with iCloud, new recordings show up on your Mac and VoiceMemoBuddy picks them up automatically.

Why isn’t it on the Mac App Store?

To read your Voice Memos library, the app needs Full Disk Access, which App Store apps aren’t allowed to request. VoiceMemoBuddy is signed and notarized by Apple and updates itself in the background.

What about my old recordings?

On first launch you choose: only new memos, the last 30 days, or your entire library. Big backfills run at low priority and pause on low battery.

How accurate are the speaker labels?

Very good for two to four people in a normal room. Once you’ve named someone, their voiceprint is used to label them automatically in later memos. When it isn’t confident, it asks instead of guessing.

Which languages are supported?

English and the major European and Asian languages out of the box, with automatic detection. An optional downloadable model adds dozens more, including memos that mix two languages.

Does anything get sent to the cloud?

Not by default. The app only contacts the internet to activate your license and check for updates. If you want, you can plug in your own Claude or OpenAI key for “Ask” — that’s your choice, per feature.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26 Tahoe or newer, and Voice Memos syncing through iCloud.

Hit record. We’ll take it from there.
