Questions

Do I need Voice Memos?

Yes. VoiceMemoBuddy works with Apple’s free Voice Memos app, which comes on every iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

Is it really private?

Yes. Everything runs on your Mac using Apple’s on-device AI. Nothing is uploaded, there’s no account, and the app doesn’t track you. You can connect your own cloud AI if you want, but it’s off unless you turn it on.

Which Mac do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 26 or later. Your recordings need to sync with iCloud.

Where do my notes go?

They’re in the menu bar app. You can also save them automatically to Obsidian or any folder, or export them to Word, PDF and more.

How accurate is it?

It works best with two to four people in a quiet room. If it isn’t sure who’s talking, it asks you.

What about my old recordings?

When you start, you choose: new recordings only, the last 30 days, or everything.

Can it record phone calls?

No. Voice Memos can’t record phone calls. VoiceMemoBuddy works with meetings, interviews, lectures and notes to yourself.

Why isn’t it in the Mac App Store?

App Store apps aren’t allowed to read your Voice Memos library. VoiceMemoBuddy is signed and checked by Apple, and it updates itself.
